ASUCD Elections
ASUCD elections occur twice each academic year where the undergraduate student body votes for Executive Officers, Senators, and referendums. Senators guide the operations of ASUCD and supervise its units, committees, and commissions. Interested in running for office? Visit the ASUCD elections page for more details.
Executive
The executive office consists of the ASUCD President, Vice President and ASUCD Controller as well as their respective staff. Elections for the offices of ASUCD President and Vice President are held annually during the seventh week of winter quarter.
After this election, the new President appoints the ASUCD Controller. The executive office oversees all ASUCD units, but the President often takes a more direct role in Advocacy Units, while the Controller manages Business Units.

Legislative
The legislative branch of ASUCD is headed by the ASUCD Senate. Under it is a large support network containing seven commissions, and various committees.
The ASUCD Senate meetings are held on Thursdays at 6:10PM and can be joined via Zoom.
The ASUCD Senate is the body which introduces, and commonly writes, legislation. Once legislation is submitted to the Senate, it gets referred to any number of the relevant commissions who scrutinize the legislation and offer their specialized opinion on it. Other committees also exist to serve specific functions.

How can I speak during a Senate Meeting?
The agendas for Senate meetings are announced 72 hours in advance and can be found on Government Documents page of the ASUCD Website. The meetings follow Parliamentary Procedures. If you are unfamiliar with these procedures you can follow the guidelines here. To speak at a virtual Senate meeting use the virtual “raise hand” feature during public discussion.

Seven Commissions comprise the subordinate legislative bodies of the ASUCD Senate. The primary duty of a commission is to advise the ASUCD Senate on matters relevant to their individual specialty. Many commissions also plan events and activities that pertain to their field of expertise and benefit the student body in educational or entertaining ways.
Commissions hire new members at the end of Fall and Spring Quarter each year, though vacancies often occur mid-year as well. Each commission has nine voting members and up to four alternate members.

The primary duty of each committee is to delegate responsibilities of the ASUCD Senate into smaller components in order to efficiently handle administrative roles and tasks. Each committee is administrative and has a scope pertaining to its field of expertise. Most of the committees consist of members of the ASUCD Senate, Commissions chairs, and career staff.

Judical
The judicial branch of ASUCD is headed by the ASUCD Judicial Council. The Judicial Council serves as the adjudicative body of ASUCD. The ASUCD constitution gives the Judicial Council the authority to issue binding rulings on disputes that arise under the Constitution and Bylaws. Including the resolution of all disputes arising under official actions of ASUCD Elected Officials, Appointed Officers, and all subordinate bodies of the ASUCD Senate.

Judicial Council FAQ
How do I open a case with the Judicial Council?
To open a case with the Judicial Council a Complaint Form must be filled out and submitted to the Student Government Administrative Office (SGAO) via email sgao@asucd.ucdavis.edu.
What happens once I open a case?
The petitioner and respondent will receive a formal notice from the Judicial Council Chair with information regarding their rights and the procedure moving forward. The Judicial Council will consider a case within five (5) academic days of receiving the complaint. When considering a complaint the Judicial Council will vote whether to dismiss the case or schedule a hearing.
Can I appeal the verdict given by Judicial Council?
The Petitioner or Respondent may appeal the Judicial Council’s decision on a case, and if the Judicial Council chooses to accept the appeal, the case can be reopened.
Decisions made by the Judicial Council may be appealed by filling out the Judicial Council Appeal Form, and submitting it to the Student Government Administrative Office (SGAO) via email: sgao@asucd.ucdavis.edu.
